What to Expect during your laser hair removal treatment
At Body Lipo Lincoln we pride ourselves on our exceptional customer service and commitment to excellence, so we will go out of our way to make you feel comfortable. Before your treatment begins, we will take the time to explain the process and identify the main areas to work on with white pencil. You will be provided with goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam and ultrasound gel will be applied to the area to conduct the energy.
The handpiece is cool and will be placed onto the skin and you will be guided by the specialist of when the treatment starts. Once the treatment starts, we will be asking you on a scale of 1-10 how hot it feels and there will be a gradual increase in heat. We want you to be at about an 8-9 and this lets us know we are reaching and destroying the hair follicle. We then turn on the cooling head to make the treatment comfortable.
The sensation is similar to a flicking of elastic bands on the area and sometimes there is no sensation at all. We will assess your skin sensitivity too to ensure that we always use the right frequency to get the safest, fastest results. It shouldn’t hurt, but it’s normal to experience a mild tingling sensation during your treatment so you may prefer to wear loose clothes.

How does laser hair removal work?

Are there any age restrictions?

How to get the best results
Prior to your laser hair removal treatment we ask that you don’t use any oils, moisturisers or sunscreen on your skin. It’s also advisable to shave in the 12 hour period before your treatment, as having as few hairs as possible first makes the process more comfortable. It’s essential that you avoid fake tans and stay away from sunbeds prior to the treatment too, to ensure your skin is safe and undamaged by UV rays.
Laser Hair Removal Prep
- Shaving within 12 hours before your treatment will remove the necessary amount of hair growth to avoid stinging during the procedure. Unlike waxing, we do not need to see the outer growth of the hair to remove it.
- Skin should be free of any fake tan and it’s vital not to undergo sun or tanning bed exposure before laser hair removal. Wear a high factor SPF and keep the skin thoroughly moisturised.
- For laser hair removal to work, there needs to be a hair follicle present! Do not wax, pluck or epilate for up to 4 weeks before treatment. Shaving is acceptable as this does not eliminate the hair follicle beneath the surface of the skin.
- Before a treatment of laser hair removal, make sure that your skin is clean, dry and free from any cosmetics, lotions, deodorants or make up.
- Wear loose and comfy clothing to your appointment so that you can easily expose the areas to be treated and feel comfortable after the session.
How to look after your skin following laser hair removal
Your skin may be a little sensitive following treatment, so it’s important to follow these guidelines in the first few days following treatment:
- Don’t pluck or wax any area where you have had laser hair removal. This is not only to avoid sensitivity, but also because waxing and plucking both stimulate new growth which can impede the results of the laser treatment.
- Avoid hot baths and showers for the first two days – tepid only.
- Avoid swimming or jacuzzis.
- Avoid deodorants, perfumes or scented body lotions/creams for the first three days to prevent irritation.
- Avoid excessive exercising or activities that cause you to sweat.
